报告人简介:

Dr. Shan Ping Yu is a Professor and the O. Wayne Rollins Endowed Chair at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Yu's research has been focused on the mechanism of neuronal cell death and neuroprotection after hypoxia and ischemia in vitro as well as in animal models. His investigations contributed to the identification of novel ionic and molecular mechanisms that involve voltage-gated channels and ligand-gated receptors in apoptotic and necrotic cell death. His research group was among the first to develop the novel concept of preconditioning transplanted stem cells and have demonstrated the multifaceted pro-survival and pro-regenerative effects of this strategy in stem cell transplantation therapy. Dr. Yu developed the novel pharmacological hypothermia therapy and demonstrated its brain protective effects against ischemic stroke, hemorrhage stroke and traumatic brain injury. Dr Yu has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in in top tier journals such as Science, PNAS, J. Neuronsci, Neurobiol Dis, JCS, Stem Cells and FASEB J. Dr. Yu’s research has been supported by multiple grants from NIH, NSF, and AHA. He is an editorial board member of several journals and has serviced as a regular or invited study section member for NIH, VA, AHA and several international institutions.
