Department of Human Anatomy and Histology & Embryology, School of biology and basic medical sciences in Soochow University, offers doctoral and master education. There are 13 faculty members, including 4 full professors, 5 associate professors and 4 lecturers. And we have 1 doctoral supervisor and 5 master mentors in the department. There are a couple of research projects ongoing in the last five years, including 1 NSF grants of China, 1 NSF grants of Jiangsu province and 4 university funds. We won one second prize of Provincial Natural Science, one third prize of Ministerial Science and Technology Advancement, two second and one third prize of Suzhou Science and Technology Advancement.
The courses we provided are systematic anatomy, regional anatomy, histology and embryology for undergraduates from different majors and students from abroad. Some course is given in bilingual teaching for China students. We have published 4 textbooks in chief editor and more than 13 in editors. We won the first prize of Provincial Multimedia Courseware for course of Histology & Embryology. The teachers were also awarded two first prize and one second prize of Soochow University teaching competition. To better serve the students, we are pushing forward five teaching reform projects and one building high-quality textbook project.
The research of our department focused on the cellular neurobiology in glia cell and stem cell biology, molecular neurobiology in neurodegenerative disease, development and mechanism in atherosclerosis and clinical applied anatomy. Research projects include: “The influence or control of the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus on the development of atherosclerosis” and “Effect of transplantation of astrocytes interfered in pancreatic triglyceride lipase gene on the repair of brain injury”, both supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China. “Morphometric analysis of peptidergic neurons of hypothalamus in rats with atherosclerosis” and “The changes of NO, OX-LDL in the development of atherosclerosis”, which is supported by Province Natural Science Foundation. Our project “Influence of the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus on the development of atherosclerosis” were awarded with the second prize by Jiangxi Provincial govemment. “effect of hypothalamic pituitary medium on endothelial cells” were awarded by suzhou city Govemment.
