TopicDiamond Electrochemistry: Current Development and Outlook

Time0930AM,May 30th (Monday)

Location909-B

Abstract

Boron-doped diamond has been investigated as one of the most promising electrode materials for analytical chemistry since 1990s because of its unique electrochemical properties including outstanding stability, wide electrochemical window, and flexible surface termination. In recent years, due to the development of diamond CVD techniques, surface-enlarged diamond electrode is now widely available, and this progress has attracted new attention in energy related topics such as energy storage and conversion.

In this talk, basic electrochemical properties of diamond as well as the diamond-related research in Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics (IAF) will be introduced. Furthermore, our method for diamond surface enlargement, especially the templated-growth method, will be discussed in detail. Finally, some new and exciting possibilities of applying such surface-enlarged electrodes in energy, especially solar energy, conversion applications will be proposed as future topics for scientific research.
