Topic: An Introduction to IOP Publishing and New Journal of Physics

Time: 10:00AM, Nov. 19th(Thursday)

Location: Conference Room B, BLDG 909-1F

Abstract:

This talk will give an overview of IOP Publishing (IOPP) and the portfolio of journals and ebooks that we publish, which includes the Journal of Physics series, Nanotechnology and Chinese Physics B/C/Letters. A particular focus will be New Journal of Physics, IOPP’s broad scope, open-access physics journal.

With early career researchers in mind especially, the talk will feature advice on how to get your work published, and how to progress your career by acting as a referee. The following points will be discussed:

(1)   tips for writing your paper;

(2)   deciding which journal to submit your paper to;

(3)   an overview of the peer-review process in IOPP journals;

(4)   guidance on effective refereeing.

The talk will also outline the features of New Journal of Physics that make it a leading venue for communicating high-impact physics research, and how these can benefit you. These features include: the Fast Track Communication article option; our high-profile, subject-specific “Focus on” collections; and the recently-launched Early Career Prize.

Biography:

I am an associate editor working on New Journal of Physics (NJP). My main duties are the day-to-day management of the peer-review process in NJP, together with the general editorial development of the journal. I have worked at IOP Publishing for 4 years. Before this I did a PhD in experimental atomic physics at the University of Oxford (2010) following a Master’s degree in physics at Imperial College London (2004).

About IOP Publishing:
