题目:From Molecular Photovoltaics to Roll-to Roll Printing of Solar Cells

摘要:

Advances in controlled synthesis, processing, and tuning of the properties of organic conjugated polymers and peroskites have enabled significantly enhanced performance of organic and hybrid electronic devices. Our laboratory employs a molecular engineering approach to develop processible low band-gap polymers with high charge carrier mobility for enhancing power conversion efficiency of single junction solar cells to ~11%.

The performance of polymer and hybrid solar cells is strongly dependent on their efficiency in harvesting light, exciton dissociation, charge transport, and charge collection at the metal/organic/metal oxide or the metal/perovskite/metal oxide interfaces. In this talk, the integrated approach of combining material design, interface, and device engineering to significantly improve the performance of polymer and hybrid perovskite photovoltaic cells (PCE of >17%) will be discussed. Specific emphasis will be placed on the development of low band-gap polymers with reduced reorganizational energy and proper energy levels, formation of optimized morphology of bulk-heterojunction layer, and minimized interfacial energy barriers using functional surfactants and graphene oxide. At the end, several new device architectures and optical engineering strategies to make tandem cells and semitransparent solar cells will be discussed to explore the full promise of polymer and perovskite hybrid solar cells.

 

个人简介:

Alex Jen is currently serving as the Boeing-Johnson Chair Professor and Chair of the Department of Materials Science & Engineering at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is also serving as Chief Scientist for the Clean Energy Institute endowed by the Washington State Governor. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984 under the tutelage of Prof. Michael Cava. 

Dr. Jen’s research interest is centered on utilizing molecular, polymeric and biomacromolecular self-assembly to create ordered arrangement of organic and inorganic functional materials for photonics, opto-electronics, nanomedicine, and nanotechnology. He has co-authored more than 540 publications, given over 450 invited presentations, and has >25,000 citations and a H-index of 82. He is also a co-inventor for more than 50 patents and invention disclosures. Professor Jen has also been selected by Thomson Reuters as one of the most cited researchers in the world in Materials Science.

For his pioneering contributions in organic photonics and electronics, he was elected as Fellow by several professional societies including AAAS, MRS, ACS, PMSE, OSA, and SPIE. He has also been appointed as the National 1000 Talent Professor at the Zhejiang University, the Changjiang Endowed Chair at the Wuhan University by the Chinese Ministry of Education, the World Class University Professor by the Korean National Research Foundation, and as the Distinguished Chair Professor by the National Taiwan University. Recently, he has been elected as an Academician by the Washington State Academy of Sciences.
