报告题目:Polymerizations at Interface: From 3D Polymer Brush to 2D Polymer Single Crystal

摘要Abstract:Thin polymer films have numerous technological applications in various industrial and biomedical sectors related to protective and functional coatings, non-fouling biosurfaces, biocompatibility of medical implants, separations, advanced membranes, sensors & electronic devices, adhesion, lubrication and friction modification. In many cases the films can be of complex composition with different types of polymers with complex architecture such as three-dimensional (3D) polymer brushes. Polymer brushes are unique thin films with polymers covalently anchored to surfaces. Films composed of polymer chains that extend along a direction normal to the grafting surface can exhibit properties distinctly different from relaxed polymer chains, thus can exhibit unusual physical properties. In another scenario, two-dimensional (2D) polymers emerged recently as sheet-like monomolecular macromolecule consisting of laterally connected repeat units with end groups along all edges. Moving from one-dimension (1D) to two offers access to surface morphologies such as increased surface area, pore structures, and possibly in-plane π orbital-conjugation for enhanced electronic properties. Both polymer brushes and 2D polymers are in the scope of polymer thin films and prepared by interface polymerizations, but obviously they have different purposes, interfaces, structures and functions. In this talk, I will give a brief introduction on the synthesis, characterization and applications of the two kinds of polymer films.
个人简介Biography: Tao Zhang is a Postdoc Researcher at Center for Advancing Electronics Dresden (cfaed) and Chair of Functional Molecular Materials (Prof. Xinliang Feng group), Technische Universität Dresden, Germany. He obtained his bachelor’s (2008) and master’s degrees (2011) from Sichuan University, China. He obtained his Ph.D. degree (2015) in polymer chemistry (Prof. Rainer Jordan group) from Technische Universität Dresden, Germany. His research focuses on surface and interface polymerizations, especially on the interfacial synthesis of 2D (conducting) polymers, carbon rich materials and polymer brushes and their applications in electronics and catalysis. He has published over 30 journal papers, including Nature Communications, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Advanced Materials, Nano Letters, Macromolecules, , etc.
