Research:

Role of cardiovascular proteases in regulating vascular and cardiac function
Corin is an important protease that regulates blood pressure and cardiac function. In the heart, corin activates natriuretic peptides, thereby promoting natriuresis, diuresis and vasodilation. This mechanism is critical in preventing hypertension and heart disease. Currently, we are studying human plasma soluble corin and its role in the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure. We also are studying corin activation mechanism and genetic mutations and/or single nucleotide polymorphisms in patients with hypertension and congestive heart failure. Our goals are to understand the biology of corin and its role in hypertension and heart disease. Our lab also studies other proteases that play a role in thrombosis, hemostasis and vascular biology.
